Jewell Loyd Requests Trade After Seattle Storm’s Bullying Investigation Finds No Violations

Seattle Storm star point guard Jewell Loyd has officially requested a trade after an external investigation into allegations of bullying and harassment by the team’s coaching staff found no violations. The investigation, which had been conducted by an independent law firm, concluded Wednesday without uncovering any evidence of discrimination, harassment, or bullying, according to a statement from the team.

The investigation was launched after reports surfaced last month of alleged mistreatment by the Storm coaching staff, which was said to involve bullying related to player performance during the 2024 season. Loyd, who was reportedly at the center of these allegations, had hoped the findings might lead to improved relationships within the team and organization. However, following the investigation’s conclusion, she has decided to request a trade.

The Storm’s statement read: “The organization retained an outside investigator to conduct an impartial investigation into the allegations. The investigation has been completed, and there were no findings of policy violations or any discrimination, harassment, or bullying. To protect the integrity of the process, and to preserve confidentiality, we chose not to comment while the investigation was ongoing.”

Loyd’s trade request marks a dramatic shift after years of success with the Storm. Drafted first overall in 2015 out of Notre Dame, she has become a cornerstone of the franchise, earning multiple All-Star selections and leading the team as a key locker room figure. Loyd signed a two-year supermax extension with the Storm last year, solidifying her long-term commitment to the team—until now.

The bullying allegations first emerged following complaints from multiple players regarding the behavior of the coaching staff during practices and games. While the details of the mistreatment have not been fully disclosed, it was reportedly tied to the performance expectations placed on players during the 2024 season. The investigation into these claims involved both the WNBA and the players’ association, who were kept informed throughout the process.

The decision to request a trade following the investigation’s results signals a deep rift between Loyd and the Seattle organization, despite the team’s stated commitment to a respectful and professional work environment. If the Storm honors Loyd’s request, it will bring an end to her decade-long tenure with the franchise. The next chapter for Loyd and her storied career is now uncertain, but it is clear that her relationship with the Seattle Storm has reached a breaking point.
