Employees at the Universal Cinema AMC located in CityWalk Hollywood have voted to unionize with IATSE, marking the second location of the chain to do so.
During the election held on March 15 and 16, 37 workers cast their votes in favor of joining the Hollywood crew union, while six voted against. This decision includes ushers, cooks, bartenders, and all other non-management staff members of the theater.
Savannah Copeland and Maria Lubanovic, crew members of Universal Cinema AMC, expressed their delight with the outcome, highlighting the workers’ dedication to improving the workplace for themselves and their colleagues. They emphasized the inspiring unity among the crew.
Following the successful vote, the Universal Cinema AMC joins the ranks of AMC Dine-In South Bay Galleria 16 in Redondo Beach, which unionized with IATSE several years ago.
The 50-member group initiated the union election process in February, citing concerns about wages and scheduling practices. Additionally, IATSE mentioned disparities in pay raises offered to managers but not extended to rank-and-file employees as a motivating factor for unionization. With the election results now finalized, the Universal Cinema AMC workers are gearing up for negotiations with management.
