Hong Kong witnessed a remarkable showcase of athleticism and admiration for its stunning trails during the 2024 Goodman Healthy Hike & Run. Drawing over 550 participants from Hong Kong and across the globe, the event proved to be a spectacular celebration of outdoor fitness.
In an impressive display of skill and endurance, local Hong Kong runner Leung Son Keng and French athlete Sophie Hedou emerged victorious as the champions of the 2024 Goodman Healthy Hike & Run. Leung clinched the first-place title in the men’s 19 km category, while Hedou secured the top spot in the women’s 19 km category.
Participants competed across three categories – 5 km, 13 km, and 19 km – amidst the breathtaking backdrop of the Tai Lam Chung Reservoir, famously known as the ‘Thousand Islands Lake’. Spectators lined the course, adding to the excitement and energy of the event. Beyond the thrill of the race, the Goodman Healthy Hike & Run also aimed to promote Hong Kong’s scenic hiking trails and champion environmental initiatives such as ‘leave no trace’.
Reflecting on his victory, Leung expressed his elation, stating, “Running on this picturesque trail was a privilege, and I savored every moment. The camaraderie among competitors was remarkable, and I am honored to stand at the top. The impeccable course marking and excellent organization added to the overall experience.”
Similarly, Sophie Hedou shared her joy at winning the women’s 19 km category, attributing her success to the supportive atmosphere and the stunning trail. “The energy of fellow participants and the beauty of the course fueled my determination until the finish line,” she remarked. “Competing on the Tai Lam trails was truly special, and I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a remarkable event.”
The Goodman Healthy Hike & Run prioritized responsible and sustainable practices, offering participants fruit, biscuits, energy bars, and water at various checkpoints while encouraging runners to bring their own refillable water bottles and flasks. Embracing the ‘leave no trace’ ethos, the event successfully minimized waste, saving the equivalent of 1200 paper cups and recycling 9 bags of waste.
Kristoffer Harvey, CEO of Goodman Group Greater China, commended the winners and participants for their remarkable achievements and emphasized the importance of sustainable events like the Goodman Healthy Hike & Run. Michael Maddess, Director of Action Asia Events, echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in the event’s partnership with Goodman and their shared commitment to sustainability, health, and wellbeing.
