TelevisaUnivision is undergoing a leadership change as Wade Davis steps down from his role as CEO, transitioning to vice chairman of the board. Daniel Alegre, previously the president and COO of Activision Blizzard and CEO of Yuga Labs, will take over as CEO starting September 19.
Davis played a pivotal role in orchestrating the $4.8 billion merger that formed TelevisaUnivision two years ago. While the reason for his departure was not specified, the company described it as part of its long-term succession planning process. Under Davis, TelevisaUnivision has made significant investments in both streaming and linear television, with the ViX streaming service nearing profitability.
“On behalf of the Board, I’m excited to welcome Daniel to TelevisaUnivision as we embark on the next phase of our strategic journey,” said Alfonso de Angoitia, executive chairman. He acknowledged Davis’s contributions to the turnaround of Univision and the merger with Televisa, emphasizing the company’s leading position in Spanish-language media.
Alegre expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, noting that TelevisaUnivision is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities in a rapidly evolving media landscape. He highlighted the importance of the U.S. and Mexico as key Spanish-language markets and underscored the company’s commitment to serving these communities.
Davis, reflecting on his tenure, praised the success of TelevisaUnivision in achieving above-market revenue growth and establishing ViX as the largest dedicated Spanish-language streaming service globally. He expressed confidence in Alegre as his successor, believing he is well-equipped to lead the company into its next growth phase.
