Ms. Lauryn Hill has provided an explanation for the abrupt cancellation of The Fugees’ North American tour dates.
In a statement, Hill revealed that the cancellation stemmed from an injury she sustained in 2023. She also criticized certain media outlets for their “penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines,” accusing them of “[creating] a narrative that has negatively impacted ticket sales for the North American leg of the tour.”
Hill expressed frustration over how her genuine intentions and dedication to her art have been overshadowed by these portrayals. “Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time,” she said. “Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”
Despite the cancellation of the North American dates, The Fugees will proceed with their UK and European tour dates scheduled for October. Hill also promised that the North American dates would be rescheduled once the current issues are resolved.
The tour, celebrating the 25th anniversary of *The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill*, was set to begin this Friday in Tampa, Florida, with The Fugees as co-headliners.
