Renowned Indian designer Kartik Kumra made a significant leap onto the global stage by presenting his latest collection at Paris Fashion Week for the first time. The exclusive event took place in a historic building in Paris’ Opéra neighborhood, where Kumra unveiled his captivating Fall/Winter 2024 collection to a select audience.
Drawing inspiration from the rich history of the Thar Desert city of Jodhpur, Kartik Research’s FW24 range pays homage to the city’s sandstone mining heritage. The collection proudly showcases Indian craftsmanship, with a focus on hand-woven textiles created in collaboration with numerous local artisans, resulting in truly distinctive pieces. Kumra’s designs feature formal, boxy tailoring with contrast stitching, modern silhouettes adorned with floral embroidery and shimmering patchwork, and the introduction of his inaugural selection of womenswear looks. The women’s line includes embellished tops, asymmetrical skirts, as well as essential wool coats and tasseled accessories.
In a significant move, Kartik Research has joined forces with the UK fashion giant Baracuta for their premier collaboration. Kumra has reimagined Baracuta’s iconic G9 Harrington jacket with quilted detailing and handloom fabrications, while preserving the garment’s timeless checkered design through geometric paneling.
