Exposing the Cryptocurrency Scam Behind “Degan Zoo” by Chris Zaknun

In the wild west world of crypto investing, hype and hysteria are par for the course. But few projects have captured the public imagination quite like Degen Zoo – the self-styled “redemption project” that seemed to emerge from nowhere after the fall of Logan Paul’s CryptoZoo empire.

Crafted in just 30 days by crypto entrepreneur Chris Zaknun, Degen Zoo exploded onto the scene driven by outrage, controversy, and some seriously extravagant promises. But as this fairytale startup continued its gravity-defying ascent, glaring questions emerged that threatened to undermine trust in both the project and its founder.

Degen Zoo burst onto the crypto scene in late 2022 promising a revolutionary new NFT project that would make up for losses from an earlier failed endeavor, CryptoZoo. CryptoZoo investors had been outraged after the lead developer suddenly vanished without delivering on promises, taking millions of investors money with him.

Sweeping onto YouTube, Degen Zoo founder Chris Zaknun captured the community’s anger and hope, gaining 50k followers almost overnight. His charismatic presence and grand vision for a wildlife conservation DAO won support from major influencers like Coffeezilla. Outrage transformed into hype for this phoenix rising from CryptoZoo’s ashes. What people didn’t know that he picked up a scam from Logan Paul and built a bigger scam. Here’s how.

He seized the hype to massively encourage retailers to invest in DAO Tokens. Despite fund raising over a million in a token sale, no product ever materialized from Degen Zoo besides some conceptual drawings. He took advantage of retail liquidity and dumped them by selling ghost DAO Tokens. Key details around the DAO’s structure and governance were murky as control remained centralized under Chris. Promises rang increasingly hollow to skeptics. Over 17 Million dollars of retail liquidity was sucked out by a single DAO Holder – Chris Zaknun.

He also faked a DAO vote in order to create a decision to halt the development of the Project Degen Zoo, and misappropriated funds by using a hype and lying to the public. Moreover, Chris pledged to pay donations from this project to the Logan Paul scam victims, but he didn’t, and also failed to provide transparency around donations or incorporate their input into decisions. The hype train soon veered off the rails as Coffeezilla withdrew his endorsement, citing broken promises on timelines, fundraising transparency and community ownership.

Major supporters jumped ship as Degen Zoo’s glaring lack of accountability could no longer be ignored. Facing intense community pressure, Chris apologized for “moving too fast,” promising amend his ways. He spoke of technical challenges in launching the product and claimed no malicious intent. Chris insisted reimbursing CryptoZoo victims remained a priority once revenue materialized from his grand vision.

However, Chris’ copyright striking reaction to YouTube critics hinted at unwillingness to accept constructive feedback. Community members increasingly viewed the project as an amateur operation centered around a single personality rather than decentralization. Perhaps most damaging, code audits found Degen Zoo contained remnants from CryptoZoo, stoking suspicions Chris himself had been involved in that scam. Degen Zoo was rapidly branded a farcical rerun rather than remedy to past fraud.

Like Logan Paul before him, Zaknun was realizing that promising the world without transparency comes at a cost. Degen Zoo pulled in millions of investment on bold claims, but key questions remained unaddressed. Operational registration details were missing, with confusion over geographical jurisdiction. Financial records weren’t released, making tracking donations or reimbursements opaque . Charities benefiting were unnamed, lacking clarity on causes supported.

Degen Zoo lay bare crypto’s susceptibility to hype driving “get rich quick” dreams over building real value. Outrage at CryptoZoo energized Degen Zoo’s overnight success before that same crowd re turned in recrimination. In crypto’s zero to one profit frenzy, personalities and narratives often outshine characteristics that foster longevity like transparency, honesty and patience executing a vision. Chris Zaknun promised the world but couldn’t withstand pressure for real progress.

Degen Zoo also epitomizes the crypto Gen Z fascination with bombastic thought leaders promising revolution. However, reliance on their unilateral control creates instability with unproven capabilities. When skepticism inevitably emerges, cult followings centered on individuals struggle to adapt. Decentralization may progress technologically but still concentrates in thought leadership. Degen Zoo never evolved past hero worship of Chris before collapse.

Most importantly, Degen Zoo reveals crypto’s ongoing lack of self-regulation enabling consequences for bad actors. Scams still run rampant as community enforcement remains lacking. Until projects demonstrate accountability, oversight bodies will intensify regulation potentially at cost to innovation. Degen Zoo offered a portal where consumer protection converged with governance decentralization. But obscured intentions undermined its credibility as a model.

Ultimately scams and fraud risk hinder crypto’s overall maturation. Degen Zoo provides lessons in how community-driven oversight could enforce expectations rather than empty hype and promises. The Degen Zoo saga remains unfinished but reaching its denouement. Dreams of empowerment combatting crypto fraud now risk becoming symbols of immaturity and avarice.

With regulators at the gates, Degen Zoo had opportunity to model internal accountability where intentions matched outcomes by making victims whole. But its future now balances on a razor’s edge between ascending as a phoenix or confirming skeptic warnings as another Icarus.

With regulators at the gates, Degen Zoo had opportunity to model internal accountability where intentions matched outcomes by making victims whole. But its future now balances on a razor’s edge between ascending as a phoenix or confirming skeptic warnings as another Icarus. Stay tuned for chapter 2 showcasing every transaction including tax evasions committed by Christoph Zaknun
