Dyson is making a bold leap into the world of audio with its first dedicated set of headphones, the OnTrac. Following their hybrid Dyson Zone model from 2023—which combined headphones with an air purifier—Dyson now focuses exclusively on audio excellence. The OnTrac promises enhanced features in battery life, active noise-cancelling (ANC), and personalization options.
The OnTrac headphones are highlighted by their advanced ANC technology, which Dyson describes as “best-in-class.” Equipped with eight microphones that capture external sounds at an impressive rate of 384,000 times per second, the OnTrac employs a custom ANC algorithm to eliminate up to 40dB of ambient noise. Additionally, the MyDyson app (available for iOS and Android) allows users to track and manage their noise exposure, promoting healthier listening practices.
In terms of battery life, the OnTrac offers up to 55 hours of playback with ANC enabled, positioning it just behind the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100’s 60 hours. Notably, Dyson has integrated the batteries into the headband rather than the earcups, resulting in a sleek profile that balances style and functionality.
A standout feature of the OnTrac is its extensive customization options. Users can personalize their headphones with interchangeable caps and ear cushions, available in over 2,000 color combinations. These components are easy to swap out without special tools, allowing for a tailored look.
Dyson’s entry into the headphone market underscores its deep expertise in acoustics and noise reduction, developed through decades of designing products like vacuums and hairdryers. With a price tag of £449 GBP / $499 USD and replacement accessories starting at £49 GBP / $49 USD, the OnTrac aims to compete with top-tier brands like Apple, Sony, and Bose.
