Awake NY has officially lifted the veil on its highly anticipated collaboration with Jordan Brand. Featuring the inaugural collaborative sneaker, the Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship, alongside a seven-piece apparel capsule, the collection celebrates the profound influence of New York City on basketball and street culture. Moreover, it marks a significant moment for both parties, with Michael Jordan’s roots in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, adding a poignant layer to the collaboration.
Devotees of Jordan Brand have long awaited the unveiling of Awake NY’s take on the Air Ship, initially teased during the opening festivities of the brand’s Orchard Street flagship in June 2023. Now, the collection presents a comprehensive view of the accompanying apparel range. At the heart of the lineup is a meticulously crafted wool-and-leather varsity jacket, adorned with chenille patches on the chest and back, intricate snakeskin details on the sleeves, and additional embroidered accents. Complementing this standout piece are an acid-washed flannel, co-branded sweatshirt, sweatpants, T-shirt, shorts, and hat, all showcased in the collection’s lookbook. The lookbook features notable members of the Awake NY community, including Ev Bravado of Murder Bravado and Ruba Abu-Nimah, the former creative director of Tiffany & Co., captured by photographer Christopher Currence.
Accompanying the collection is a captivating short film titled “Where I’m From,” directed by Anthony Jamari Thomas. Set in Fort Greene, the film boasts appearances from luminaries such as Carmelo Anthony, DJ Clark Kent, Rowdy Rebel, and Kitty Ca$h, alongside community figures and members of Bucketfam Global, a youth sports organization based in Brooklyn.
