Following her successful Las Vegas residency and ahead of her upcoming performances in Munich, Adele has announced her decision to take a hiatus from music.
In an interview with German broadcaster ZDF, the Grammy-winning artist revealed that she currently has no plans to release new music following her critically acclaimed album “30” in 2021. Adele expressed a need for a significant break to recharge creatively after the emotional intensity of her recent performances.
“My tank is quite empty after these shows,” Adele shared. “I don’t foresee any new music in the near future. I want to take a big break and explore other creative avenues for a while.” She added with a touch of humor, “Would you believe I don’t even sing at home anymore? How strange is that?”
Known for her introspective and heartfelt lyrics, Adele had hinted at a lengthy wait for her next album during a Las Vegas performance earlier this year, suggesting that she may take an extended hiatus from album writing.
While specifics about her new creative endeavors remain undisclosed, Adele has previously explored ventures outside music. Last year, Forbes reported her establishment of The Shelbourne Collective Limited, a company focusing on specialized design activities, for which she secured a trademark in the U.K.
In the interview, Adele also candidly discussed the challenges of fame, admitting to missing the anonymity she enjoyed before her meteoric rise to stardom. “I don’t enjoy being famous,” she confessed. “I love creating music and connecting with audiences who appreciate it, but the fame side of it—I find it quite uncomfortable. I miss everything about my life before all this.”
Adele’s popularity continues to soar, evidenced by the specially designed pop-up stadium being constructed in Munich for her upcoming residency. Announcing the residency earlier this year on Instagram, Adele expressed her excitement at the opportunity to perform in a bespoke venue in the heart of Europe.
“I couldn’t resist exploring this idea—a stadium tailor-made for whatever show I want to put on? Oh!? Right in the middle of Europe? In Munich? It’s a bit unexpected, but absolutely thrilling!,” she shared enthusiastically.
