Apple has introduced two new devices aimed at making its ecosystem more accessible to a wider range of customers. The company unveiled the iPhone 17e and the MacBook Neo, both starting at $599, marking one of Apple’s most affordable product launches in recent years.
The move signals a shift toward offering more entry-level options while still maintaining the performance and design standards associated with the brand.
MacBook Neo
The new MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display and a lightweight aluminum body designed for portability. Weighing just 2.7 pounds, the laptop is built for everyday tasks such as web browsing, productivity work, and AI-assisted applications.
Powered by the A18 Pro chip, the device offers faster performance compared with earlier entry-level models. Apple says the chip can deliver up to 50% faster speeds for daily tasks and up to three times better performance for on-device AI processing.
The laptop also includes a 5-core GPU for improved graphics performance and a 16-core Neural Engine designed to handle AI workloads efficiently. Additional features include a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones with noise reduction, and stereo speakers that support Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.
The MacBook Neo comes in several colors, including silver, indigo, blush, and citrus, and includes an anti-reflective display coating for improved visibility.
iPhone 17e
Apple also revealed the iPhone 17e, a more affordable version within the iPhone 17 lineup. Despite its lower price, the device includes several premium features.
The phone runs on Apple’s A19 processor and a new C1X cellular modem, which Apple says provides significantly faster connectivity compared with previous models.
The iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with Ceramic Shield 2, designed to provide stronger protection against scratches and damage. The display also reduces glare for better visibility in bright environments.
Photography remains a major focus, with the device equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion camera and a 2x optical-quality telephoto lens for improved zoom capabilities.
The smartphone starts with 256GB of storage, doubling the entry-level storage of many earlier models. It also supports MagSafe wireless charging and comes in black, white, and blush pink color options.
A Shift Toward Accessibility
By launching both devices at the same $599 price point, Apple appears to be targeting consumers looking for premium performance at a lower cost.
The strategy could help Apple attract new customers, particularly younger users and buyers who previously considered Apple products too expensive.
Whether the move represents a long-term shift toward more affordable hardware or simply an expansion of Apple’s product lineup remains to be seen, but the launch of the iPhone 17e and MacBook Neo clearly signals Apple’s interest in reaching a broader segment of the market.
