10 things to watch Monday, June 16 — Today’s newsletter was written by Zev Fima, the Investing Club’s portfolio analyst 1. The major U.S. averages pointed to a higher open early Monday, despite the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The current question on everyone’s mind is whether America will get involved as Israel goes after Iran’s underground nuclear infrastructure. 2 . Interestingly, oil is down despite the Middle East tensions. The key question for oil traders, investors and consumers alike given the far reaching implications of energy prices: Will Israel go beyond the striking the nuclear facilities by also disrupting activity in the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly a quarter of global oil is transported. 3. Leaders of the world’s biggest economies gather this week in Canada for the Group of Seven (G7) summit. The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East and their impact on trade will be a key issue, and allies will likely ask whether President Donald Trump is with them or not, wrote CNBC’s Holly Ellyatt . 4. Trump has ordered ICE to expand deportation in Democrat-run cities, while at the same time pausing enforcement when it comes to certain key industries including agricultural, hotels and restaurants, the Associated Press reported . 5. Club stock Honeywell is open to making more European acquisitions as the region looks to ramp up its military and defense spending, Bloomberg reported . At a press briefing during the Paris Air Show, Ben Driggs, Honeywell’s aerospace technologies chief commercial and strategy officer, said the company is specifically interested in safety systems and control systems around thermal management and electrification. 6. The Justice Department is doing an antitrust review of Alphabet’s planned $32 billion buy of cybersecurity company Wiz to determine if it would limit competition in the market, Bloomberg reported. 7. Eli Lilly on Monday said that the highest approved doses of its obesity medication Zepbound (12.5 mg and 15 mg) will soon be available in single-dose vials for $499 per month through LillyDirect’s Self Pay Pharmacy Solutions and the Zepbound Self Pay Journey Program. 8. Meta Platforms PT raised to $775 from $665 at Oppenheimer, which reiterated its outperform rating, noting that the macroeconomic backdrop and advertising environment appear to be better than feared a little over a month ago. 9. Piper Sandler raised its price target on Advanced Micro Devices to $140 from $125, citing new product launches and a rebound in the GPU business exiting FY25. 10. NXP Semiconductors PT raised to $250 from $240 at Wells Fargo, which kept its outperform rating, following the firm’s competitive SAM analysis of China vs. western peers.
